Want to Grow Your Business? Get Organized!

Want to Grow Your Business? Get Organized!

A big advantage of becoming a Youngevity Independent Marketing Director is the ease with which you can establish your own business. Where else can you start earning extra income for as little as a $10 initial enrollment fee? As your business gets off the ground and your customer orders increase, it's easy to let mundane tasks like filing and organization go unattended.

In fact, according to a survey of 1,006 small and medium size businesses conducted by Office Depot1, filing and organization are the top business tasks that small business owners least look forward to, as 27 percent loath putting their office in order. In addition, 21 percent see "organizing my office" as the top issue that hinders their ability to focus on business growth. As the top "pain point", organization ranks higher than saving money and acquiring new business.

When asked what would most help bring order to their offices, small business owners said they needed more time (57 percent), more tools (39 percent), and the help of an organization expert (14 percent). The items respondents would like to keep more organized or up-to-date are their desks (28 percent), desktops (24 percent), and file cabinets (23 percent).

Although they don't feel adept at organization, the majority of respondents said they tidy their desks either daily (27 percent) or weekly (34 percent). Only nine percent admit to cleaning their desks a couple of times a year, and one percent never organize their offices.

If you can relate to these numbers, stay tuned for next week's newsletter when we focus on tips for staying organized!

Selenium Plus CoQ10 Lowers Heart Disease Mortality

Results of a new randomized controlled trial conducted by Swedish researchers and published in the International Journal of Cardiology1 strongly suggest that a combination of two dietary supplements, selenium and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), may lower the risk of death from heart disease.

Selenium is a trace mineral that is found in soil, water, and some foods. It is essential for human health and plays a role in dozens of biological functions and is considered a powerful antioxidant. It has been studied widely for its role in prevention and treatment of heart failure. High levels are associated with a lower risk of developing certain cancers, including prostate, bladder and thyroid.

CoQ10, which is also known as ubiquinone, is found in nearly every cell in the body. It is most highly concentrated within the mitochondria, the structures within the cell that convert the raw materials in dietary carbohydrates, proteins, and fats into energy. Energy demanding cells such as those in the heart and liver contain the greatest amount of CoQ10 since they contain the most mitochondria per cell. Although the body manufactures its own CoQ10, production peaks by age 20. Low levels of CoQ10 have been linked with fatigue, chronic pain, a weakened immune system, and increased risk of heart disease.

In the study, 443 Swedish men and women between the ages of 70 and 88 were randomized into two groups and given either a daily combination of 200 mg CoQ10/200 mcg selenium per day or a placebo over a 4-year period.

Among the key findings:

  • Nearly 13 percent of the placebo group died of cardiovascular disease, compared to just 6 percent of the selenium/CoQ10 group.
  • The biomarker NT-proBNP, a predictor of heart attack risk, was significantly lower in the selenium/CoQ10 group than the placebo group.

This study is significant in that it's one of the few randomized controlled trials (considered by many to be the "gold standard" of scientific evidence) to demonstrate relationship between specific nutrients and disease.

Until next week,

The 90 Day Blitz: Timing is Everything; Why Now is the Perfect Time

The 90 Day Blitz: Timing is Everything; Why Now is the Perfect Time

Anyone that has been involved in business understands that business operate in cycles. Every quarter Wall Street anxiously awaits the end of quarter results of companies to get a feel for the direction things are going. The same thing goes for your home based business.

Think about this, it's now May. What's on everyone's mind right now? Cookouts, weekends at the lake, summer vacations, summer sports, gardening, weight loss.

Do the major retail stores just now bring out products related to the summer season?

No, they actually start bringing those products into their stores in February.

Why so early?

Do you actually go out in February and purchase your patio furniture or new grill? Do you start buying gardening tools, summer sports gear in February?

Granted, there are a few people that do but for most of, us usually not.

So why do they start so early?

Because retailer's know that exposure is critically important. They know that when the season finally gets there and their customers are in the buying mood the customer has already seen the product; have already made a buying decision and will purchase the items from them. The same holds true for your business.

Many people in the network marketing business feel that the summer season is their least productive season but I disagree.

Just like in the retail business it's all about exposure. That is why starting a 90 Day Blitz is critically important right now.

Fall is one of the most profitable times in network marketing. When the cool winds begin to blow people are in the buying mode. The fall brings a new season of hope. People are looking for a change.

  • The kids are going back to school which brings the expenses associated with it. New clothes, books, fees.
  • All the summer activities are over so there is more time to think about what they will be doing with their time.
  • Bills are coming in from vacation fun.
  • People are starting to think about winter getaways or traveling for the holidays.
  • People are looking to lose weight because they can't get into their favorite jeans.
  • They are thinking about ways to bring in extra income.

If you start your blitz now you are getting your exposure so when the fall season comes along people have already been exposed to what you are doing or the products that you are offering. Also, because of the concentrated effort now you will come across people that are ready for a change now. With fewer people making an effort during this season you are more than likely to be the only one the prospects come across to solve their problem increasing the likelihood that they will join you.

Think about this:

  • The first 90 day blitz started now creates momentum
  • The second 90 day blitz this fall builds the momentum as you attract people in the buying mood
  • The third 90 day blitz in the winter catches people as they think about bringing in extra income for the holidays and exposes others that will be in the buying mood at the beginning of the year
  • The fourth 90 day blitz catches people in the buying mood to solve New Years resolutions, pay off Christmas debt, and those preparing to look good for spring.

You can see how important it is to start now. Your efforts during this season will set the tone for the entire year. Make 2012-13 be your best seasons ever.

Power Phrases

Have you ever had the problem of how to transition a conversation in a way that you get permission to talk about what you can do to help?

When you are having a conversation with someone and you have uncovered a problem there is an easy way to transition to your solution. Here are a couple of quick phrases that you can use that allows you to get their permission and then to prepare the individual to mentally say "yes I want to hear what you have to say."

Here is the first approach, they are talking about their problem and you are listening to them, here is what you say,

I was thinking about what you were saying just a few minutes ago about your problem with……. It occurred to me that there might be a way to turn that around if you were interested in resolving it.

Think about the power of that simple statement. You can reference any conversation whether it was today, last week, on Facebook, in an e-mail, wherever they made the statement, by using this simple phrase. No matter what the problem, health, energy, bills, etc. this phrase is powerful.

I was thinking about what you said last week about ……….. It occurred to me that there might be a way to turn that around if you were interested in resolving it.

Do you realize the power in that phrase, if you were interested in resolving it? What are they going to say, "No I like misery" or "no I like being broke." There is no way that you are not going to get a positive answer from them.

It occurred to me that there might be a way to turn that around if you were interested in resolving…

What if they did respond with some negative response? "I've lived with it for so long I know there is no way to fix it."

You respond with the magic word, WHY.

Why do you feel that way or why have you given up, or if there was something out there that might help you whywouldn't you want to know how …?

Once they respond indicating that they want to hear what you say then you can proceed.

Another version that can be used in place of "It occurred to me" would be, "is this something you want to resolve or is this something  you are prepared to live with it."

Try these phrases in your conversations and let me know what happened.

The Hardest Thing You Will Ever Do in MLM

High Fructose Corn Syrup: Junk Food for Your Brain (But Omega-3s Are Brain Health Food!)

High Fructose Corn Syrup: Junk Food for Your Brain (But Omega-3s Are Brain Health Food!)

A new study published in the Journal of Physiology provides more evidence that high fructose corn syrup is the equivalent of "brain junk food", while omega-3 fatty acids can be considered "brain health food."
In a preliminary study, researchers at the University of California Los Angeles studied two groups of rats that consumed a fructose solution as drinking water for six weeks. The second group also received omega-3 fatty acids from flaxseed oil and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). DHA is the primary essential fatty acid in the human brain. It is crucial for synaptic function and affects numerous functions including learning and memory.
The rats were fed a standard diet and trained on a maze twice daily for five days before starting the experimental diet. The researchers tested how well the rats were able to navigate the maze, which contained numerous holes but only one exit. Placed within the maze were visual landmarks to help the rats learn and remember the way.
Six weeks later, the researchers tested the rats' ability to recall the route and escape the maze. The results were surprising:
  • The group that received DHA omega-3s navigated the maze much faster than the group that did not receive omega 3s.
  • The DHA-deprived rats were slower and their brains showed a decline in synaptic activity. These animals also developed signs of resistance to insulin, which plays a key role in memory and learning. (Note that insulin is also a key regulator of blood sugar).
Conclusion
Although it is a preliminary, non-human study, this research suggests that eating too much fructose could block insulin's ability to regulate how cells use and story sugar for the energy required for processing thoughts and emotions. This suggests that a high-fructose diet is harmful not only for your body, but for your brain, too.
